Act Now! Comment Period Extended!
Running the clock into December, when U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) was supposed to make a determination on the listing of the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard as an endangered species, the agency instead decided on a six-month extension of the consideration period.

During this time, USFWS will accept additional science related to the lizard and its habitat in the shinnery oak sand dunes in Eddy, Chaves, Lea and Roosevelt counties, as well as counties in West Texas. A final determination is expected in June 2012.

If you have not made comment to USFWS regarding your perspective of the impact of such a listing, please do so. The deadline to submit comments is 3:00 PM, Wednesday, January 18, 2012.

Think your opinion won't matter? Please think again. It is important to take action on this issue as it will affect industries in Eddy County.

Look for more information about meetings and/or rallies in the coming weeks. Visit http://southwest.fws.gov to submit your comments. If you would like more information, please call Artesia Chamber at 575.746.2744.
